Interspinal stabilization of the spine with dynamic stabilization systems
One of the effective methods of treating back pain (spinal canal) is interspinous stabilization. Thanks to the development of modern technologies, such stabilization of the spine can be performed without reducing its motor function.
For a long time, rigid fixation was used to treat instability, which completely immobilized one or more segments of the spine, and only through the implementation of dynamic stabilization systems can the musculoskeletal functionality of the spine be fully restored.
The best results were shown by systems that are installed in the interspinous space: Coflex and DIAM.
Indications for surgery
- lack of effect from conservative treatment of pain syndrome ,
- recurrence of intervertebral hernia ,
- stenosis of the root canals due to a decrease in disc height.
Target
The essence of the methodology is:
- implant placement between the spinous processes of compromised vertebrae,
- due to which the root canal expands and compression on the nerve root decreases,
- mobility is maintained in adjacent joints,
- the likelihood of a hernia occurring or recurring is reduced.
The operation is minimally invasive and is performed through a small skin incision; the patient is verticalized on the day of the operation.
DIAM system
DIAM is an interspinous shock absorber made of silicone and high-strength titanium. Through a small incision in the skin, the spinous processes are released, if necessary, a microdiscectomy is performed , the interspinous space is freed, where an implant of the desired size is installed and fixed.
COFLEX system
COFLEX is a U-shaped spring with fasteners that secure the implant to the spinous processes.
When installing interspinous implants, the biomechanics and architectonics of the spine are preserved, the center of rotation is preserved. Due to their effectiveness, low trauma and ease of performance, interspinous stabilization operations have taken an important place in spinal surgery, which is represented in the neurosurgical department of the Kherson Regional Clinical Hospital at a high level.
The neurosurgeon has extensive experience in installing interspinous prostheses and confidently notes that a conventional microdiscectomy supplemented with interspinous stabilization significantly increases the effect of delayed results.
