Laser vaporization
In the early stages of osteochondrosis, the most effective treatment method is automated decompression and laser vaporization of herniated intervertebral discs (vaporization).
Automated decompression
This is a procedure in which parts of the affected disc are removed through a needle using a miniature Archimedes screw. During the operation, a needle is inserted into the affected disc under the control of an X-ray machine. Next, an “Archimedes screw” is inserted into this needle, onto which the affected disc is “wound”. As a result, the pressure inside the disc decreases and the hernia seems to retract. After automated decompression, the disc is treated with a laser.
Percutaneous laser vaporization of degenerated discs
This is the most effective minimally invasive method of treating herniated intervertebral discs in the early stages of the disease. When using this method, treatment costs are significantly reduced and the rehabilitation period is shortened. The essence of the operation is very simple: under the influence of a medical laser, the nucleus of the intervertebral disc evaporates, decreases in size, as a result of which the disc itself decreases and the hernia is retracted, the pressure on the nerve roots disappears and the pain regresses. The laser also “burns” the nerve endings in the damaged fibrous ring, stopping the pain impulse from it.
Treatment of herniated intervertebral discs is performed through a needle under local anesthesia and X-ray control.
The duration of such an operation is about 30 minutes. Long postoperative rehabilitation is not required. The patient can be discharged home on the day of the operation.
Laser vaporization is used for people aged 20 to 50. This method is not always suitable for older people with severe osteochondrosis.
Advantages of the hernia vaporization method:
- no damaging effect on the spine,
- minimally invasive – the operation is performed through a needle,
- does not require general anesthesia – local anesthesia,
- minimum rehabilitation period,
- reduction of hernias of any size with subsequent restoration of the intervertebral disc,
- the possibility of treating several hernias at once,
- minimal risk of developing dangerous complications,
- possibility of repeating the manipulation.
Laser vaporization of a hernia does not exclude the possibility of therapeutic treatment. However, the ineffectiveness of therapy within three weeks is an indication for surgical treatment. Laser vaporization of the disc is an intermediate stage between medical treatment and open surgery.
