Reasons for development
Such seemingly minor complaints as pain or numbness in the thigh area can be symptoms of a dangerous disease – neuropathy of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh.
Pathologies
- prolonged compression and trophic disorders of the cutaneous nerve of the thigh due to wearing tight clothing,
- adiposity,
- pregnancy,
- neoplasm,
- in diseases complicated by ascites.
Consequences
With the development of such a disease, motor disorders do not develop, but the following may occur:
- a feeling of crawling ants,
- sensitivity disorders,
- pain in the front of the thigh,
- in severe cases, thinning of the skin,
- flaccidity of the specified localization.
Diagnostics
The pain is aggravated in an upright position and with active movements. Due to the typical classical picture, diagnosis is not difficult and only in rare cases (with ascites or suspected neoplasm) may additional examination methods be required – ultrasound or MRI.

Treatment
Treatment of lateral cutaneous neuropathy is reduced to eliminating the factors
- wearing loose clothing,
- fight against obesity,
- treatment of diseases complicated by ascites,
- removal of detected neoplasms.
Restorative complex
In complex treatment, they are also used
- physiotherapy,
- Exercise therapy,
- anti-inflammatory drugs
- vitamins.
Surgical treatment
In the presence of neoplasms in the area of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh, severe pain syndrome, and in the absence of effect from conservative treatment, the patient is offered surgical intervention.
The neurosurgical department has accumulated vast experience in treating diseases of the peripheral nervous system, and the presence of a microscope and microsurgical instruments will allow for the most effective surgical intervention and return the patient to work capacity.
