A patient who received a severe gunshot wound to the spine and abdomen was admitted to the department. The patient received surgical treatment in a military hospital, where stabilization of the damaged spine was also performed. However, fate so happened that the soldier was sent to the front again, where he realized, under conditions of heavy physical exertion, that the severe pain syndrome did not allow him to defend his country.

Long-term treatment in various hospitals did not give the desired effect. He could only walk with crutches, and when walking and generally in an upright position, he felt a severe shooting pain in his left foot.

He applied to several clinics, but was refused due to the fact that "the operation was performed in another city, by other doctors," or "a complex case." The doctors of the department where the patient was treated found our clinic themselves and contacted Zhuravlev O. They sent the pictures. "A consultation was held in the neurosurgical department of the KNP TOKPL TOR - they decided that we would be able to help our hero," says Oleksandr Zhuravlev, a neurosurgeon of the neurosurgical department.

All repeated operations are associated with a higher risk of complications and require careful planning. “On the one hand, it was an interesting case . On the other hand, we always help our military with special pleasure,” says Oleksiy Leontiev. It so happened that the patient had 6 screws installed, of which 1 broke, 3 loosened and thus his spine lost its resistance. The complexity of the operation also consisted in the fact that it was practically impossible to remove the broken part of the screw and the question arose of installing additional screws and removing those that loosened. A plan was drawn up. Our colleagues (https://www.facebook.com/Implants.in.ua) came to the rescue, who provided the metal structure that the patient needed.

It was a complex operation. It lasted 7 hours. The loose and broken screws were removed, and the structure was additionally strengthened with more screws. The pelvic screw was reinserted. Decompression of the S1 root was also performed, which caused severe pain.

The following people worked in the operating room:

  • surgeon – O. Leontiev,
  • assistant – O. Zhuravlev,
  • anesthesiologist – A. Musienko,
  • operating room nurse – I. Molchanova.

The results of the reoperation are shown in the following pictures:

As a result of the operation, the back pain has completely disappeared. The pain syndrome in the foot has significantly decreased. The patient walks without a walker, actively moves around and feels much better.

We thank our military for choosing us! We perform surgical interventions of the highest complexity, including revision surgery.

Glory to Ukraine!
