Symptoms
A mild concussion is a mild form of TBI , which, unlike a concussion, is accompanied by minimal structural changes in brain tissue.
Mild concussion is in many ways similar to the clinical presentation of concussion, but these manifestations are usually more pronounced.
- Loss of consciousness lasting from minutes to 1 hour;
- Memory impairment;
- The period of inhibition and drowsiness after regaining consciousness is longer.
Vegetative symptoms of stroke
- nausea,
- vomit,
- sleep disorders,
- sweating,
- temperature instability,
- Pulse and blood pressure fluctuations are more pronounced and prolonged.
With adequate treatment, all these symptoms usually completely disappear within the first day after the injury. In mild contusions, there is a morphological substrate of brain tissue damage in the form of small-point hemorrhages and cerebral edema.
CNS damage
This may be accompanied by focal symptoms of central nervous system damage:
- mild muscle paresis
- slight anisoreflection
- sensitivity disorders
- mild speech disorders when the dominant hemisphere is affected,
- convulsive attacks
Diagnostics
- When performing a lumbar puncture, signs of subarachnoid hemorrhage (blood impurities in the cerebrospinal fluid) are often observed.
- X-rays of the skull often show signs of a fracture of the skull vault and base.
- When performing MSCT of the brain , in addition to skull fractures, foci of brain contusions are detected.
Treatment
Inpatient treatment is longer than for concussion . Usually the course of treatment is 8-14 days. The patient is monitored 24 hours a day with determination of saturation and blood pressure.
